Gather Data

GATHER DATA

Gather information on how your employees think about caregiving in order to better understand current gaps in your workplace. This section includes self-assessments and surveys to get you started.

Conduct a self-assessment

Better understand the way your policies and workplace environment support or hinder working caregivers.

Internal Policies

Assess your internal policies to better understand how they impact caregivers in your workplace. Do you offer specific support for caregivers like flex-time or teleworking? Do your employees know what support is available to them?

Workplace Environment

Assess your workplace environment to better understand how your employees feel about caregiving. Do your caregiver employees feel free to discuss their situation at work? Do they feel supported by their colleagues as they navigate the challenges of caregiving?

Employee Needs

Assess your employee needs around caregiving. Do you know what your working caregivers need to be successful? Do you know if you non-caregiver employees are aware of their caregiver colleagues and their situations?

Survey your employees about their caregiving needs

Once you have conducted your self-assessment, gather employee feedback on how your workplace approaches caregiving and what you can do to better support caregivers.

Survey

Conduct a survey of your caregiver and non-caregiver employees to get their input on how to foster a caregiving friendly workplace through specific policies and actions.

Conversation Starters

Use the results of the survey to continue to ask questions and foster discussion among your employees to find the best ways to create a caregiving-friendly workplace. Engage your employees in some of the conversation starters outlined below to hear how they feel about caregiving and the workplace.
